brolin powell: city cellin; kris' eighthinch butcher v2

City Cellin. from Kris *lockedcog* on Vimeo.
it seems like kris and alex are always riding and filming little cellphone edits. these two have really contrasting styles and an affinity for running less than 2 straps- alex only runs one, kris is known for not running any foot retention at all. throw all this style onto a variety of spots and you have this. speaking of kris...

he just built up his v2 butcher and... it's pink. it's really pink. yeah it's a rattlecan custom job which also included blacking out some parts.... like the gumwall tires. #HOODRICH. you can see the rest of the bike here.

#deadwood_manup, get pumped: man up! competition is upon us, put up or shut up

PUT UP OR SHUT UP. _deadwood_ Presents MAN UP! from _deadwood_ on Vimeo.
the man up event is this weekend, and kenny and i are really hyped about it. here's a little preview of what's going to come; some of these riders are well known, some are new faces to you- all of them are ill to death. the whole concept of pros riding with the local heavy hitters is going to keep everything interesting. get more info about saturday's event at the facebook page.

voila, magic: BB17 serpent two tone

(via bb17)
okay, i seriously think that breakbrake17 can hear all of my stupid thoughts because this seriously fulfills a thought process i have had before. first off, this kinds reminds me of torey thorton's old grime SUPMANG 29er (one of my all time favorite frames that never really took off because of the 26" boom) but in reverse. then there's the whole thing about polished rims looking good on raw bikes. i have a polished rear chuckker (i know, outdated), and one of those apparently hard to find olive fronts.

THIS FRAME MATCHES MY CURRENT PARTS SETUP.

big spins: YNOT goes back to school

YNOT GOES BACK TO SCHOOL from YNOT Cycle on Vimeo.
YNOT knows you're heading back to campus, so they're having a little sale on their junction messenger, and  swoop laptop sleeves (when you buy a swoop comparable bag). to rais awareness, tom mosher went on a little adventure with his laptop. when was the last time you saw a bigspin by tom? it's like haleys comet; it's so rad... but i would never ride around like that with my laptop in my bag, and i don't advise you to do so either!

empty out your pockets: phil wood track crank preorder

(via mashsf)
so it's been a minute since we've seen any movement or news about these cranks from my locals at phil wood. the last time we saw them was pretty much around this time, last year. well, mashsf announced the preorder for these babies earlier today on their blog. the preorder kit comes with the 170mm Phil Wood Track Cranks in polished finish, a 48 tooth Phil Wood track chainring, Polished silver crank arm dust covers, a Phil Wood sealed bottom bracket 110 length, Polished silver Phil Wood mud guards (for the BB), a Phil Wood bottom bracket tool, and Limited run packaging... you may be asking, "so jmik, how much is this setting me back?" it's $620.

are you okay?  i see you've fainted. you read that correctly, $620. now stay with me, breathe- that's alot of dough for a crankset, but if you look at the costs of a phil wood BB, the mud guards, the bb tool.... it's still around 400-500 for a crankset.

gotta pay the cost to be a boss.

BHSK x 1990vlns baseball tee

there's a reason why i'm re-posting this. someone asked me for a hi-res photo of someone wearing the shirt, so i put mine on and struggled to photograph myself with one on. again, this started as a crappy sketch in my sketchbook- a twist on an older 1990vlns design involving a 40oz. for those of you that know me, i have this thing for imagery that's motorcycle related, hence the motorcycle club inspired stuff on the back. and if that wasn't enough, the homies and i agreed that a regular tee would be boring, so we opted for a baseball tee. in the end, regardless of all the waiting, i'm still amazed on how good this came out.

slim thugg, the big boss of the nawf: wolfdrawn summer left overs

Summer Left Overs from Matthew Spencer on Vimeo.
um... so this has everyone in it. i think matt just took everything that didnt end up in black & white and threw it in to make a summer ender edit. i'm not going to comment on the riding, because it's super good and you should watch it. it took me a while to get through because i was going back to watch lines 2 or 3 times. i am going to, however, raise the question of where the hell is slim thug nowadays?  him and lil' flip, what happened to those guys?

serious inquiry.

fast, captured: addison zawada for leader by matt lingo

(via rec fail)
addison zawada is ludicrously fast. at the red bull ride n style event, he did everything he could to gain and maintain a lead by any means. he recently made a trip down to san diego did a photoshoot with matt lingo the newest company to bring him under their wings- leader bikes. you can get the rest of the photos and a little bit of addison's story over at rec fail.

round & round: pedalhard crit recap

i'm kinda bummed i don't live an hour away from sacramento anymore- i'm missing some good stuff like this. our friends at pedalhard in sac put on a crit and some heavy hitters made it out there. it looked to me like a really varied group of regular joes and hardcore fixed gear staples like chas from TCB and walton from MASH- even the almighty cardiel showed up as a spectator. what i found great was a dude i knew from my days in chico placed second between walt and chas! pretty awesome.

the ominous switch: packy golan's last 700c edit

Packy Golan 700c from Packy Golan on Vimeo.
you know it's always kind of a bummer for people like me who love the big boy wheels to see people make the switch to the smaller wheels. packy's bike bit the dust so he figured he's make the ominous switch; but beforehand, he put together the rest of the big boy wheel footy into an edit. packy's riding is probably best described as "never half assed" and it shows by his 3's and that gnarly x up. again, bummer he's moving down a wheel size, but hopefully some bigger things will come of it.

be there: Man Up! fixed freestyle open by deadwood

re posted because i want it back on the top again for a minute. buckle down because i have a story to tell you. one random day, i woke up with a text from my good buddy kenny arimoto AKA deadwood. we had a really long conversation about the fixed freestyle scene. i'm not going to get in depth with it but we saw negatives and positives in the sport. one thing was for sure though, the kids were hungry. we found that there was a really big void between the superstars and the kids who rode every day- to change that, kenny thought up of the "MAN UP!" competition. no invites, no entry fee, no restrictions, just run what ya brung, and kill it. pros will be on the same level as the kid that rides the block every day, it's going to be a free for all frenzy. i will personally be there and have a hand in coordinating this, as well as our fam at destroy and chrome.

join up on event facebook page!

end the summer right. be there.

jmik

ps. we're still looking for more sponsors, so shoot me an email if you're interested!

conjunction junction, this is a function: MAN UP pre-registration party

during a meeting i had with kenny, he mentioned a pre-registration party for the event in SF. if you happen to be in the city, then you should head over to chrome SF and RSVP- if you are of drinking age, you get 2 free drink tickets. but kids, just because there's a bar doesn't mean you're not invited- you can get buck with us too! we got some sick raffle prizes and music by dj cop-a-feel (ha, i see what you did there). be there!

acronym overload: LDG, LBC, MLK with joe and congo

there are some parks that are decent enough to the point where i dont mind it's a park edit. one of those parks is this one. congo and joe of livery design gruppe hit up MLK to get some runs in. both of them have a really good mix of style with most of the airs being really "floaty". but that downt mean they dont throw down- joe's got those 5's and congo does some switch stuff. i really want to make my way down there.

the slappppps: MoN's one day sunday

OneDay Sunday 1 from MoN on Vimeo.
well, ramon is another guy who has that hustle. not only that, but it bears repeating when i say he's everywhere. in one edit, he'll be in so cal, and in another (this one) he's at friggin 3rd and army with the mac dre slaps. it's a chill one in SF (no pun intended if there was one), with ramon and the homies messing with some practice runs.

in session: eighthinch back to school sale!

(via eighthinch)
i love eighthinch because they're always having a sale- whether it's completes or parts or polo stuff, it seems like they're practically giving stuff away. well school is back in session and of course that means you gotta replace all the stuff you broke on your bike from riding it all summer or you need to build up a bike to get to school. eighthinch has you covered with 10% off all parts with the coupon code "back2school".

don't sleep, because you have until the end of september! (bad green day joke)

the killer inside: SESH KULT- The Ritual by Phillip Williams

SESH KULT - The Ritual from UNLKLY on Vimeo.
what did i say? the homie phillip williams has such crazy hustle, he drops edits two at a time. he sent this one over saying this was his newest endeavor. from what i got from it, when you're riding you almost turn into a completely different person and you become essentially possessed by the hunger of completely MURDERING a spot. and phillip can murder a spot- he took this one and did every single trick you can think of and then some.

i have the strangest feeling- i want to open up this pit dude.

Alex Nunez Escape The Heat from Tommy Mao on Vimeo.
here's another quicky from another one of our friends' out in the 209. another one of those dudes who has persistent hustle is the homie alex nunez. apparently he recently became a part of the zontrac flow team- with some hammers and really fast and punchy style. that line with the quick 180, halfcab down a set was mighty ill.

retail therapy: BHSK x 1990vlns baseball tee NOW AVAILABLE!

WOAH, WHAT? NO WAY! yes way, actually. i know these were supposed to drop alot earlier but we has some logistic issues- but WHO CARES! these things looks SO NICE and i am really hyped on what the fam at 1990vlns did. this was literally a crappy sketch in my sketchbook, and the idea came to me from an older 1990 design. for those of you that know me, i have this thing for imagery that's motorcycle related, hence the motorcycle club inspired stuff on the back. and if that wasn't enough, the homies and i agreed that a regular tee would be boring, so we opted for a baseball tee. in the end, regardless of all the waiting, i'm still amazed on how good this came out.

YOU CAN COP ONE NOW RIGHT HERE. I HAVE A LIMITED SUPPLY, BUT THE FASTER THIS GOES, THE FASTER I CAN PROBABLY GET MORE.

a machine: snow ball effect with team312

SNOW BALL EFFECT from LIVETEAM312 on Vimeo.
this is sin duck ho of korea. he's not human, he's a frickin machine. in this you'll see him take his keirin bike out on the streets. it's not a cruise in the park, dude is a train pushing that bike. then later on he swaps out to an affinity kissena with steezy slurpcult like logos, and he goes nuts on some rolllers. i really like the vibe of this one, even though it's just a dude sweating it out on 2 really expensive bikes....

jmik

a little obsessed: osaka funny's bb17 serpent

(via spike)
i'm not even affiliated in any way with breakbrake17 or spike parts, but i'm crazy obsessed over their stuff. case in point, i feel like osaka funny's bb17 serpent is one of the cleanest builds out there. since it's osaka funny's you defninitely know i'ts not just a pretty face- it's gonna be ridden. if i had the money and time to build a whole new FGFS setup it would seriously resemble this.

crazy hustle: #fixiefamous and the affinity metropolitan from premium rush

Affinity Rush | An Inside Look at Joseph Gordan Levitt's Fixed Gear From Premium Rush from FIXIEFAMOUS on Vimeo.
let me start by saying that fixiefamous has crazy hustle. they're actually helping kenny and i out on this man up competition GREATLY. i can't go into details about it, but they're really helping. anyway, looks like they sent a guy out (yeah, they do that! that's some hustle) to new york's affinity to take a closer look at some bike from some movie. it kind of sucks that this thing didn't have the other nitto bullhorns, and wasn't a lo pro but then again as a guy who has weird obsessions over stuff like that it's easy to see why they went this route from a movie standpoint. no one wants to see JGL's head the whole movie, and no one want st see him hunched over the whole time....

jmik

the upcoming realities: pedalhard's no coast ride; PDX to SF

a while back alex g. who rides for pedalhard sent me a message about starting the process of this ride- now here's a little tase of what's to come. he and the homies are doing the trip from portland down to san francisco which equates to 800 miles and come change in 7 days. i can barely do 20 miles in an hour, i can't imagine how brutal yet epic this would be.

jmik

rhymes with hesh: $E$H with phillip williams

Phillip Williams - $E$H from Sam Clark on Vimeo.
they dynamic duo of sam clark and phil will are at it again. you would think that the sports and the tricks would start becoming repetitive, but the shark is an anomaly- fresh takes, super tech, extra concise stuff. he sets it off right with that variable grind sequence in the beginning, and then he goes into some really different stuff like the line at 1:15. i know i sound like a broken record, but the fact that this dude comes with an edit every time you think "heh, i wonder when the next phillip williams edit is going to drop" makes him one of the hardest working people in FGFS. forreals.

this pit needs to be opened up: the devil rides a pale horse by MoN

The Devil Rides a Pale Horse from MoN on Vimeo.
OH YES. THIS SONG RULES. it really seems like ramon has been everywhere these past couple of months, and he's found himself at home with an unknown v3. so many chain hops, it's bonkers. everything is so controlled and tech.... then you get to 2:07- that's there i threw my hands in the air and screamed "DAMN MUH BAD!" get hyped on this dude.

a preview of what's to come: johnny coward can can

apparently i'm the judge for the man up competition and i caught wind that the homie johnny coward was going to show face. i know, i rarely post single crappy photos but this is different. i like the weird stuff, and johnny knows how to do some weird stuff. i really want to see this can can go down a set!

tooh chaaaainz: iminusd july 2012

iMiNUSD | July 2012 from iMiNUSD on Vimeo.
i just want to take a moment to thank iminusd for being at the forefront of the FGFS movement. i've seriously have been there since the beginning and i can't stress how much they've supported BHSK. anyway, big hirsch got come clips together with the local homies of the team (combs, blanco, devon, jeffy d, wonka and matt who does his part on a bike with smaller wheels) as well as hambone and schmitt of the grime SJ crew. super solid stuff.

for the lols: trick tips with jordan madarang

yeah this is a short one, but it's pretty much for the giggles. jordan madarang and company have that weird hyped up sense of humor that would probably get annoying after a couple minutes, but is okay and hilarious in short doses like this. kind of reminds me of that one episode of spongebob squarepants where he draws a circle by drawing a straight up face. people, in order to learn 3's you must 540 cab first.

by the way, that's a really legit 3 and 540 cab for a video of you kids loitering in a parking lot.... just saying.

charged with battery: affinity x premium rush

(via prolly)
yeah i know i'm going against the cardinal rule of "don't-repost-prolly-or-he'll-say-something-on-twitter", but this one he's a really good one and i'll take the heat. you're a damn liar when you say you're not going to watch premium rush. if you're either watching it for the bikes, for lamarche and austin horse, or maybe to watch the potential trainwreck- you're going to be laying eyes on an affinity metropolitan ridden by joseph gordon levitt AKA wilee AKA the new robin AKA JGL. apparently there's going to be premium rush edition metropolitans in pure white (not battered i hope) with a proper sticker pack- i surprisingly have no problem with this since i've ridden a metropolitan before and it's pretty phenomenal. affinity also has that kind of street cred where they can pretty much do no wrong. see more of the properly ridden prop at john's joint.

what i do have a problem with is this. this is hideous and sends the wrong message.

watch premium rush. or not... whatever.

auckland gangnam style: chain gang kids for adidas (sort of)

CGK :: Adidas Originals represent Auckland from Conrad Smith on Vimeo.
the chain gang kids are easily the crew with collectively the BEST BIKES IN THE WORLD. i think i've said that before but i need to reiterate. anyway, they caught wind of a contest for adidas showing off the crew, their creativity, and originality. they quickly came up with this. it's super chill, and pretty funny. and again, new zealand looks crazy nice to ride around...

#bigboywheelclique: sam hanson pedal feeb

(via bmorefixed)
this popped up this morning right when i got a message from sam about balhogs being apart of the MANUP! competition kenny and i are throwing september first (shameless plug). it's been a minute since we've seen keith teket behind a camera but he's back with this snap of sam on that new holdfast frame. #bigboywheelclique!

jmik

the sum does not equal the parts: chari & co "concept"

(via chari & co)
this one has been sitting for a while on my browser. new york bike boutique chari & co have built this custom track bike with some crazy amazing parts. we're talking about a one off kashimax, a look ergostem, some cane creek volos wheels- the whole nine yards. but what i cant get over is how gaudy and showy the damn paint job is. okay, i can live with the wheels painted the same color all around, i can live with the just the gold paint, but both with the crazy opposing colors on the wheels (blue on left side, red on the right, switched intentionally) i cant bring myself to like this at all...

that seat though is SUH-WEET.

BUY STUFF, SCREW SCHOOL: iminusd back to school sale

(via iminusd)
it's school time again, and that means another round of back to school sales. our fam at iminusd is having a pretty killer sale with 10 percent off of almost everything in the store, really. plus if you buy a complete, you get yourself a free u lock- you'll probably be needing one. get your ass to the shop, or use "SPRING2012" at checkout to save.

again, i still have no clue what's going on, but it's all kinds of awesome.

a virus: stephen plante for destroy

the destroy fam grows bigger with stephen plante. the last time i saw an edit from the dude was a minute ago, but he comes out swinging on some smaller wheels and some higher bars. i'm really digging the style here- it's low slung, slow and tech. but don't mistake it for heavy- some of those flat lines are killer and light. remember kids, bar on bar off!

that's a big bag: all city championships x trash bags

(via bike jerks)
you know i have an affinity for really big bags so when i say "damn, that's a bigass bag", then it's probably a really really big bag. for the all city championships held this weekend, trashbags brought a special bag that was designed for plane travel. it's really big. you can check it out ever at bike jerks!

jmik

that's a bigass bag.

tricks are varied: jordan madarang for famli

Jordan Madarang:Famli Straps from Wynstar Gowis on Vimeo.
the 209 cogs crew has been working mad hard lately. and its seems like everyone's getting some time in the spotlight. next up is the homie jordan madarang who i've known for a minute. he's a firm believer of the full utilization of the fixed drivetrain, and it shows through his fakie wheelie steeze and 540 cab. look for this guy in the near future.

TTv Quick Clip from FOAD on Vimeo.
yeah, so this is mildly old since the contest is over and whatnot, but i want this up here because it's just too good. jackson and evan of FOAD are rad dudes in general and for their submission into the TTv contest they strapped a broken skateboard to jackson's chainstays. pair that with freak nasty's "da dip" and you have one of the most interesting 17 seconds of your life.

that diesel: jeff dempler 2012

Jeff Dempler 2012 from Jeff Dempler on Vimeo.
since i'm local again, i've been seeing alot of jeff here and there. dude is super chill and a really underrated dude in the game as you can see. i'm going to tell you right now, you're going to be watching :21 to :23 for a while. it took me a minute to wrap my head around that one. anyway here he is riding some local spots- that end line was at a school a few blocks from where im at! this is the last time you'll see him on the specialized pfix and though i know what he's currently riding, i'm not sure if i can tell everyone just yet.

jmik

#bigboywheelclique: machete's click click careful chill ass edit

Machete Present: Click Click Careful Chill Ass Edit from K Birdie on Vimeo.
here's why i like machete: they're not afraid to support the big boy wheeled clan and they like to do the weird stuff. founder k birdie got with this homies mo and chu and made a really chill one. it feels like you're just hanging out with them and not bangertown population: hammers. i love stuff like that because you really get the sense that the riders are actually having fun riding- and hell yeah some of these spots and tricks look silly fun!

jmik

dudes: santos ballin quickie

SANTOS BALLIN QUICKIE hell yeah fuck yeah from jakob santos on Vimeo.
right as i posed this html code into the editor, jakob sent over the link. that's awesome and super ironic. anyway looks like santos got together with jball to make a silent edit- i actually like that since you can hear the bikes workin' everything out. jball comes with the cleanest lines, and jakob is jakob. that 180 ender was video game huge. pause it when he's over the rail, and you'll see...
jmik

do that work: francis roque for zontrac

FRANCIS ROQUE FOR ZONTRAC from ZONTRAC on Vimeo.
alot of kids think that when they get sponsored, they just have to ride whatever a sponsor gives them. wrong, you have to work and earn your keep. i know francis very well and this kid puts in the time and riding to keep up on his game. dude absolutely belongs with my zontrac fam because he's mad consistent- dude ill 180 bar everything and anything. he's been out for a bit because of an injurey sustained during the filming of this edit- just wait til the end....

made with me in mind: matt dizon gets weird

Lets get weird from Matt Dizon on Vimeo.
yes, so matt sent this one over this morning and he and the homies know that i love the strange spots. i dont know if it's because i have a strange fetish for that or just because i know how hard it is to be creative in the FGFS discipline. either way, this is a really good exhibition of how to take some strange spots paired  with some strange tricks (fakie tuck?) can make for something refreshing.

cross training: chase larue by steven jensen

Chase LaRue Fixed from steven jensen on Vimeo.
here are the facts. chase is a kid from seattle who is riding steven jensen's skylmt setup. he's 17 and apparently after a week or so of riding, he's pulling trucks. this is the most defined BMX style riding (freestyle bmx-y stuff and forward moving tricks) i've seen since well boothby and jensen. this kid's tire grabs aren't "tuck and slap" they're actual TIRE GRABS. that truck at the end was super legitimate with no tap crap going on. i feel bad for the edits that try to go for a similar style because they'll probably never amount to this.

jmik

public radio rules: KPCC presents "vicious cycle"

Vicious Cycle from KPCC on Vimeo.
i know, i'm a little late on this, but if i didn't post this up i would regret it. i have this weird thing for pubic radio mostly because i know that they have to deal with so much to stay afloat. unbeknownst to you all, they do cool stuff like this- cover the wolfpack hustle drag race. with a setting like the second street tunnel and a crowd like that, it makes me feel good about where bikes of this caliber are going. public radio rocks, if KPCC was a tangible object i would hug it.

how i'd do it: victor vasquez' LOW pursuit

(via the heavy pedal)
it's quite rare for me to post about a bike and just about a bike, but this is an exception. victor vasquez is the co-founder of the heavy pedal, and he recently built one of the most "built" LOW's i've ever seen. if i had the funds to build a dream modern bike, it would be this... part for part. believe me, i've given this thought  before this photo surfaced. you can see more photos of this beauty and get the bike check here.

camera angles: the north race interviews lucas brunelle

(via the north race)
hot off the heels of the line of sight DVD release, the new UK base blog "the north race" got a chance to talk to filmer and creator lucas brunelle about the project and other topics. the north race has quickly become one of my favorite blogs to frequent, and this is a really good read. here's an excerpt:

"You have a very daredevil riding approach to riding, quite refreshing in a world of rules and structure. Where do you think this comes from?

Thank you and fuck the rules. The rules and structure was made for idiotic reasons such as people doing dumb things, insurance companies lobbying for more rules, and a consensus in a homogenized society that we need rules to be decent and safe. Also my parents were hippies and I always saw them question things nobody else had the guts to question.
"

check it out!

pretty flacko: jimmy watcha flocka flame

Watcha Flocka Flame Quicky from Jimmy Watcha on Vimeo.
jimmy is that local local dude who hangs out with the heavyweights because well... he can hang. first off i'm psyched because I TOOK THAT PHOTO! hell, the watermark is still in the corner. he just has that style where every trick is punctuated by the "stomp" of the bike. i'm pretty sure that he's taking a little hiatus because of school, but never count the guy out.

the battle of juggernauts: 2013 specialized pfix vs 2013 SE primetime

(via iminusd)
i held back on the previous post with the specialized pfix because i wanted to get both the pfix and the primetime in one post. since i came back to san jose, the specialized pfix (they haven't updated that page yet) has become quite the fixture in the environment. there's no denying that they have a good stranglehold on the complete bike market in terms of FGFS.

(via pedal consumption)
this upcoming season the incumbent champion of the FGFS complete realm will be challenged by the SE's offering dubbed "primetime". i could imagine that this is a showtime frame built up, but it seems like the primetime has a completely different head tube as well as the obligatory brake braze ons. from what i see, the primetime does not have a micro drive hub, but then again you're just going to throw those onto craigslist.  these two frames have vastly different geometries (the SE having a more dramatic top tube angle) and i have a hunch that we'll be seeing specialized's grip on the market loosen up.

what do you think?

jmik

get this out of the way: Specialized early release 2013; the Langsters

(via iminusd)
our fam at iminusd have gotten their hangs on some specialized goodies- the early release of the 2013 bikes. here you have the newly redesigned langster, as well as the (also newly redesigned) langster pro. to be honest, the previous interations of the langster have been lackluster at best, but now they kind of take shape of their road line with the curved top tube. the langster pro gets a big rehaul and it looks phenomenal. if you're in the area you should stop by and take a look.

watch this, now: nick koo on deal with it TV

Deal With it TV - Nick Koo from Matthew Rice on Vimeo.
nick is one of my very good buddies, and i know this has been in the works for quite some time. this one spans a couple of frames and forks- it seems like every time he's ready to drop something, a part has to break on his bike (someone please help him with this). naturally, this means that the whole damn edit is dope as hell with fast, smooth, and calculated long lines. his philosophy of fully utilizing the fixed drivetrain to it's fullest potential shows in this one, and it proves that a rider can be good with whatever setup- in the beginning, there was bbdrop and thinner tires; by the end there were huge tires and negative bb. he broke them all, but then again my homie was dropping jaws and blowing minds. there are not a lot of people who i would really love to see get supported by this sport/discipline, but nick koo is definitely one of them. in fact he's on the top of that list. this is what i like seeing and this is how it's done people. deal with it and eb86 is really moving it forward.

by the way BIGBOYWHEELCLIIIIIIIIIQUE!

(via chrome)
earlier in the week i got a little email from chrome about their new tees. they have some vintage looking ones, some baseball tees (i love baseball tees), and some plain ones.... but this one caught my eye. you can sometimes catch my brother in crime kenny arimoto behind the wheel of the chrome brawler bus, and this shirt kinda brings my fam at destroy and chrome together sort of.

i see what you did there.

rain, pouring: still pour v2

Still Pour v2 from Taylor Dwight on Vimeo.
it's kind of crazy to look back and see old taylor (SLAYOR) dwight footy. it seems like the dude has been everywhere yet still manages to keep rolling and evolving. here he his with the still pour crew riding around some really cutty and interesting spots- as weird as it gets, they still manage to make it work with the tech stuff.

public radio: Chicago CMWC's as covered by WBEZ

Forget the Olympics: Chicago hosts world championships of bike messenger racing from WBEZ on Vimeo.
so the cycle messenger world championships went down recently and WBEZ was there along with lucas brunelle to document it. there have been comments on the way this one went down, partucularly, the track setup over a street race. i think it's wonderfully explained in this one and the bunelle footy is awesome. congrats to craig ethridge who took the title this year out!

you don't need to bar, BMX edition: kris fox for demolition

Demolition Parts: Kris Fox from 180 Distribution on Vimeo.
so yesterday was a slow day, and today the DSL went down at BHSK HQ- so now i'm at a random starbucks trying to get some posts up. this was supposed to go up a few days ago but i never got around to doing it. kris fox ia a ripper and the team manager for SE. he's the boss, because well, as you can see, he's boss. no bars, just gas pedal mashing and shit. watch this, and let it inspire you.

move on up: shinya summer edit

Shinya Summer Edit from BOB_woods on Vimeo.
i love seeing edits from japan because there's a certain finesse the riders from there possess. this edit from shinya is a pretty primo example of what i like about the japanese riding- it's fast, it's flatty-tech and unconventional with a 700c setup the has bb drop. i had to watch :52 a couple times- its like the dude was just hovering! the bench skid was pretty hard too!

#bigboywheelclique.

laffy taffy: field cycles "edible track bar and stem combo"

(via field cycles)
field cycles hails from the same area as the arctic monkeys- sheffield, england. they've been pushing some really nice handmade bikes and componentry for a while. here we have their track bar and stem combo painted by cromaworks. it looks like layered taffy with leopard trek-y colors....

2 letter acronyms: JD for SE

Jonathan Davis Welcome To SE from patrick taber on Vimeo.
jonathan davis got broke off after this one so apparently this is one of those "premature" edits. hell, i could care less, because JD always delivers... ALWAYS. this one was an introduction to SE and the showtime frame (but you already knew he was riding the thing). it took me a while to get through because that pedal slide (or crank arm?) in the second run was wrinkling my brain. the riding in this is everything i really like in an edit and i really dont expect less from JD. dude is rad.

and not a bar in sight.

velo-techno: chemical brothers "velodrome"

Chemical Brothers 'Velodrome' - London 2012 from CrystalCG International on Vimeo.
if you didn't know this, the official song of the 2012 london olympics is "velodrome" by the chemical brothers. this is pretty rad that there's a huge interest in track cycling in the UK (let's be honest, the US airs more swimming and track & field and gymnastics than cycling in the NBC coverage, but i digress) and it's the focus of the OFFICIAL song. here's the music video that gives the london velopringle velopark a TRON vibe.

you'll have "VEL....OH....DROME" in your head in no time i promise.

sleep patterns dictate what goes up: FF POWER HOUR IX

ff power hour 9 from antonyoxxx on Vimeo.
i was about to dive into bed but this popped up on teh facebookz. maybe it's just me being stupid and extremely sleepy, but that intro was too damn good. it's bloody great with the services, the jackson bradshaw, the xxxantonyoxxx, the wolfdrawn, the former twitter god sean coats, the jp, and the pizza man.i have yet to be disappointed with this series, and i don't think i ever will be.

i need to go to long beach some time.

mac dre for president: tmao.

Tommy Mao. from Wynmar Golis on Vimeo.
i promised to post this up last night as i was falling asleep, then it sat there and i finally got to watching it just now. tommy mao of the 209 cogs crew is one of those dudes who (much like everyone else from that group of homies) goes kinda unnoticed from time to time. this morning (well yesterday morning) i had a convo with kenny arimoto of destroy about this kid- not only is he a chill dude, he's got a huge bag of tricks. i know he's gonna get that 5 at the end; he's spinning crazy fast!

hustle bones comin' out my mouth: kyle messier for the fix

WOOOO BiKEs from Kyle Messier on Vimeo.
let's start with this: i love this song- i was just listening to it earlier today. kyle is a ripper from north of the us border, and though this is less than a minute, i really liked the speedy and aired out stuff in it. anyone realize that in the first line, he turned his wheel right then proceeded to 180 to the left? had to watch that a couple of times!

relevant: matt montoya and hang fives

Hangfive With Monte from Matthew Montoya on Vimeo.
this is going to be short on words. matt montoya is crazy for those hang fives and here he is on a hill with a bmx bike doing a crazy fast hang five. i'm pretty sure we can all agree that matt is one crazy dude.

a good cause: 904 fixed for bike MS

(via 904fixed)
kirk tsonos is a really rad dude who is from the 904 fixed crew. he's going to be riding in  the Bike MS: PGA tour cycle to the shore 2012. it's a 2 day ride from st. augustine to daytona all  for the sake of generating both awareness and funds for multiple sclerosis. MS is a chronic, often disabling disease that affects the central nervous system. he's trying to raise $1000 so please help him!

all together now: eighthinch scrambler complete sale

(via eighthinch)
eighthinch sent this over a couple of says ago and it got lost in my inbox. they're putting on a sale for their scrambler complete setups- at $329, it's a crazy good bargain for a really solid and versatile bike. you're getting a gusseted 4130 frame, and all eighthinch parts. if you add them up separately, and compare what theyre selling it for, you'll see how big of a deal this is. JUMP ON IT.

the power of korean jesus: denis bejtic of RAT SHIT for concept bikes

RAT SHIT // Denis for Concept Bikes from RAT SHIT // on Vimeo.
meanwhile up north of the US, a vancouver based company called concept bikes is busting out onto the FGFS scene. denis from RAT SHIT fam put this up on instagram not that long ago so i hopped on the computer and took a gander. i'm a huge fan of the unorthodox, and this one fits in well with that. not only are the settings different, at one point there's no pegs on the setup allowing for different approaches to tricks. that korean church thing at the end might look undaunting, but when you watch it a couple times, you really see how impressive that is.

it's like we're friends now: kareem shehab x csk "comfortably uncomfortable"

Kareem Shehab - comfortably uncomfortable from CSK on Vimeo.
so when people get jumped into CSK, there's usually a quick questionnaire to go with it. for kareem shehab's jumping in ceremony, jacob ruff accompanied him in the search for the perfect rail in the seattle area. i know it's like 10 and a half minutes, but after this you'll feel like you know the dude and his affinity for ping pong, trap music, soft rock and extensive knowledge of hyundais. check it.

double it up: omar sebai's 1 day in longbeach

i hate to double up on the longbeach and royal HC edits, but this is too good to pass up and let simmer. omar sebai hit the streets of long beach with some familiar places, some not. filmed in a day, it's a sub-minute edit, but it's filled to the brim with fast paced and fluid lines. i'm starting to think that this is the royal HC standard! the line at :18 is KILLER!

jmik

slow it down: royal HC team edit 3

Team Edit 3 from Royal HC on Vimeo.
this was out for a couple of days, but i guess it slipped under my radar. it's surprising because 1) i got love for my royal HC fam since they're keeping it local and local is awesome; and 2) it has some really really good stuff in here. all the lines here are really fluid and a good majority of them are fast paced- something i love seeing in FGFS edits. all these dudes are killer and everyone has their lines/hitters- elliot's got that fast and snappy riding, jball's got that huge 3, gabe's got the long double peg, hector's got his wallie, and joe has the kicker: an 3 ET.

watch this, and learn something.

officer it's camo, i swear: nitraid x leader

(via)
back in my hype days, there were a plethora of japanese streetwear brands that were skate centric and super weird to the point where none of it really makes sense. nitraid is one of those brands. their mantra of "ANTI BABYLON" is probably from rastafari beliefs- what the japanese dudes have to do with the almighty jah, is beyond me. anyway one of their notorious prints on their clothing is the "DOPE FOREST" (yes, all caps) which found it's way onto a leader 725 complete. i love camo. some people love the ganj. maybe this one's for you and me. check it out here!

intended use: chubby boob nerd crew "skin tight beer drinking suits"

The CBNC Skin Tight Beer Drinking Suit from The Sleepers on Vimeo.
i'm sure you've head of chubby boob by now, and if you dont know, then here. they recently teamed up with endo customs to make a cycling kit skin tight beer drinking suit. it's intended use is for downing brews with buds (as seen here) but i personally think it can work well with riding a bike. agree?

if i were to make a bib, it would say "f*ck off" where their "i just want to make my mama proud" statement is... it's some rad real estate back there!

happy birthday to ted shred.

ted shred has been a huge influence on me. when i moved to chico for college, and as my interest for track bikes grew i would watch videos on youtube of people bombing hills in sf. ted's stuff was one of the first things to pop up. low and behold, ted lived in chico. i went to the first competition that he held in 2008 and i was hooked into fixed gear forever. this would later lead to the blog, and me taking helm of those competitions. today, he's married and evidently it's his birthday. i just wanted to take the time to express my gratitude to ted. he's a mentor and a great friend. happy birthday brother

positivity in sleeplessness: steven jensen kirkland street edit

kirkland street edit from steven jensen on Vimeo.
i saw steven post up a photo of this uploading on isntagram so i took it upon me to stay up for a bit and wait for the drop. worth it. they skylmt rider always delivers when it comes to edits; it seems like there's something different every time you see the dude ride and the names of the tricks just keep getting longer. the first line out had a 180-plant-halfcab bar out (which is a mouthful). it's short, but man does it have replay value!

even the queen would crack a smile: feather cycles x john smedley

(via feather cycles)
i'm a really big fan of feather cycles, and you are too (yes, you are!). last time we saw ricky feather grace the virtual stage was an interview with HBTV earlier this year. through the lift agency he collaborated with british purveyors of knitwear, john smedley to create this classic track bike. i could care less if he collaborated with a high end client or a pile of dirt- this is one of the most beautiful bikes i've ever laid eyes on; so much so that i broke out singing "god save the queen" in full british accent without even knowing the words to the anthem. it's gorgeously simple with every logo in it's right place and not a gaudy "ey f*ck you! i'm a track biiiiiiiike!" part in sight. have a look over at feather cycles and you too might be saluting a union jack.

supplemental: xclip$ with phil will

Phillip Williams - XCLIP$ from UNLKLY on Vimeo.
i consider this is as an addition to the last "omen" edit. these are tricks that were in that edit but these are att different angles. it caught the one line i really loved- the drop-down double peg. it's just such a clean and fast line. the same goes for that ridiculously long ass feeble to 180. FGFS needs more fast and fluent lines like that!

sellin' dope, straight off the iphone: lockedcog sat a day

sat a day. from Kris *lockedcog* on Vimeo.
kris at lockedcog has been really out and about lately pushing these cellphone edits like crazy.though most of it's at a park, a bunch of homies get in on it with some bmx and skate action.kris, alex, tanner, gary and anthony tear that park a new one; then kris and alex get weird at the end. really digging these celly edits...
