the local: the north race interviews lizzie armitstead
(via TNR)
the north race is one of my favorite new blogs to come out this year and they're really pushing some great articles- you should really follow them. recently, megan from TNR interviewed the amazing lizzie armitstead of the 2012 great britain olympic team. she famously duked it out with the train that is marianne vos but ultimately ended up in second in front of the home crowd (marianne vos is fast, people and that's a respectable podium). a lot of people don't know this, but she's steeped in track tradition and it's cool to see great britain have a habit of track riders killing road races (sir bradley wiggins, the badass he is). here's a little excerpt:
"You had some pretty horrible weather in the final leg of the road race. Do you think training around Yorkshire’s roads was good preparation for this? What are your favourite places to ride around the region?
Harsh conditions suit me and I’m sure it is because I grew up in Yorkshire. The heat is very detrimental to my performance. My favourite rides are up the Wharfe valley from my home town Otley."
be sure to swing by the north race to get the full interview.
