save your unborn babies: low skids to lessen sperm count.

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/Tn_qMrnMZpk/0.jpg
(via here)
the once popular fixed gear skid has now been scientifically proven to lessen sperm count. as we all once have done before, low skids that utilize the nuts to stem technique cramp up the vessel that runs the process of reproducing sperm. this position, when held over the course of time almost stops production- which isn't much when done in moderation. however, over extended periods of time (i.e. practicing skids) can be devastating. you can read more here. crazy shit.

frivolously frivolous: marc jacobs' bicycle hat

(via highsnob)
if anyone came up to me and told me that my "hey dude/LETS PARTY!" cycling cap was fashionable and stylish, i would up and sock them in the DOME. apparently this is the new style- don't get the bike, just get the outlier fit and match it with a marc jacobs cycling cap. i guess dude, i guess. there are other colors if youre in to that shit.

yo, you should totally rap about your fuji track pro, yo.

"gold velocities on that track pro fixie."

(via prolls)
well at least hes got a pretty legitimate track bike. im not a fan of the song so much, but damn his bike is pretty legit. and props for actually riding the thing unlike the likes of kanye and pharrell. oh and you gotta admit, that haircut is nuts. really, it's out there....

miles mathia on his villin!

(via elevated)
miles has been under the radar for a while but hey, good news- he's been scooped up by handmade bike company villin cycleworks to test out their prototype frame. there's no better way to test out a frame then to have a thrasher thrash that thing around. see more here and learn about villin here.

zlog goes dummy in the yay. YEEE.

Zlog in the Bay from ZLOG on Vimeo.

looks like zach had a schweet time in the city. it's sick to see places you know in edits. and that song encompasses what the west coast is all about- esp the bay area. if you've never been to sf, you need to go- you dont even have to ride it, just go.

hyphy bars?

(via RVA)
not sure where these are available, but they look pretty cool. just the name brings up thoughts of keak da sneak, or e40, or shake da mayor (yeah...shake da mayor, what you got on that?). check them out. oh while we're on the topic of hyphy music....

TRUNK BOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYS. i'm going to have this as my ringtone soon...

OH IT'S ON: target's "courier" bike

Product Image Men's Schwinn Courier Road Bike - Green (700c)

(via target)
WOO! here we go! target's got themselves a fixed gear! at 260 bones a pop this thing might be a little better than a wal mart but a lot worse than a republic! the suggested age for this bike is 15, which i find kind of hilarious and a little generous. just remember, it's not really a schwinn, so dont get your hopes up. check it here.

bike snob is just a dude... dude.

[BIKESNOB]
(via WSJ)
i dont believe it. i looked up to thy anonymous figure since early 2008 and he ends up being just some dude named Eben Weiss? the creator of the rip torn seal of approval, the dachshund measurement system and the saying that yearns to be my ring tone "all you haters suck my balls" is just some 36 year old dude? the guy who makes fun of awkward brake lever positions, who named the ironic orange julius scattante, who featured my friend's sierra nevada bike, who made me use the word "nonplussed" in my everyday converstions, is just a dude? i am crushed. i was expecting it to be like SURPRISE IT'S SHELDON BROWN FROM THE GRAVE! or SURPRISE, IT'S A TENURED WASHED UP CYCLIST FROM THE 80'S!

im so crushed. SO crushed. i will read bike snob differently from now on...

subrosa wants you to save them boobies: NBCF Vilicus grips

(via subrosa)

after taking a slam while doing a ghost ride (my bag got caught on the seat and WOOP right over and then on top of my bike), i destroyed my bar end on one of my grips- so it's about that time to get a new pair. subrosa knows that you like a great pair so in a collaboration with the national breast cancer foundation, subrosa made these Vilicus grips (hoang tran model i believe). even though the majority of subrosa's stuff is either gray, black, white, or (if you feel a little crazy) red, thse grips are wait for it.....PINK....ish.  now with every purchase of these grips, subrosa will give 2 dallars towards the NBCF! if pink isnt your style (you scene kid you) i think these would look great on your girlfriends bike. dont have a girlfriend? slap em on your sister's bike or something. or put them on display and have a smug feeling about doing something good!

UHHH GET IT GIRL! talk about girls making boys cry. she just took a 900 dollar i-tal-yun track frame off a 5 stair. that just happened. yes, that just happened. if this isnt a sign of cinelli's workmanship, i dont know what is.

goos shit devan!

state of the track (or fixed freestyle, or urban track) bike address 2010 by jmik

i've been meaning to do this for the longest time. as time progresses this cycling sector we all love dearly i've always wanted to have a little summary of what's been occurring and put a little input into it. so here it goes.

since the uprising of urban fixed gear bikes for civilian use emerged in 2008, much has progressed. today, there are so many innovations to modern fixed gear use especially in the fixed freestyle area. it seems as if every bicycle company is trying their hardest to get on the band wagon. this could not have been seen more clear than the very recent emergience of the walmart "fixed speed"

(via walmart)

though there have been great criticisms to this pile of hoo hah, it's a symbolic part of the fixed gear times. dissecting the bike, they could have gone so many different ways, but they went this way. the riser bars and straight for suggest that fixed freestyle may be bigger than most of us initially had thought. the thing is, so many companies have their versions of the fixed gear that it's beginning to seem predictable-

(via urban velo)
handmade bikes companies,

(via bike jerks)
bmx companies, like volume,

(via subrosa)
subrosa,

(via bike reviews)
eastern,

(via here)
and SE. even other bike companies that normally make mountain and road machines have their own variations:

(via hellyeah)
charge,

(via giant)
even giant.

i can go on and on and on about every single bike that shares this silhouette, but i shouldn't. because this post would become ridiculous. so enough about fixed freestyle.

track bike racing has taken a small ding:

"The International Olympic Committee has confirmed a complete reorganization of Olympic track cycling events, meaning they've ditched the Individual Pursuit, the Points race, and the Madison, and added women's keirin, team sprint, team pursuit, and omnium for both men and women. The move is, ostensibly, about gender parity, having the same number of events for both men and women track cyclists..."
-simon from hipsternascar

however the 2012 olympics will bring alot to the table:

this.

and this. chris hoy is a beast.

unfortunately due to all this madness over fixed freestyle, the interest in legitimate track cycling has slightly waned. but hey:

can't say we're not trying.

as for urban track bike riding, it disappeared almost as fast as it arrived. bombing hills is a thing of the past. hell, the name of my blog became puffery. and you know why? no one is riding anymore. small ratios have killed off the once eminent huge ratio, risers have replaced bullhorns and drops- i'm not criticizing here and i shouldn't. i, too have fallen into this whole mess as well. there once was a time where there was no difference between a trick specific bike

 and an urban track machine.

(via brenton salo)
we've been so accustomed to this trick bike movement that the mashsf movie looks boring to many of these new riders who find that fixed freestyle is the thing to do. this is where i begin to become afraid that ignorance will settle in and the urban track bike will disappear into the dust by being overshadowed by the fixed freestyle movement. it's quite scary actually.

i hate to end this post on that note, but this is where we are. i dont want to make it seem like there is an ongoing war between purist track cycling, urban track cycling and fixed freestyle, but it is what it is. this interest in fixed freestyle is being projected through what's on the market. time's are changing, and we'll see more change to come.

what's going on with nem-pro? : the trackfighter plymouth

(via nem-pro)
these are snaps of the nemesis project trackfighter plymouth frame. made from plymouth "supermoly" straight gauge performance tubing which comes from the us of a and for $500 a pop, it's  one of the most inexpensive american made frames out there. it clears 40c's (or 26x 2.25's for you 26 FGFS heads), utilizes a spanish BB, has lasered gussets as well as dropouts, uses internally reinforced chainstays, and has a headtube that uses a 45X45 standard integrated headset. all in all, it's pretty sick and they're made in sac city.

btw, they're almost all sold out!

get a grip on genius: fyxation bmx and track grips

(via fyxation)
the first time i saw a fyxation tire, a buddy of mine had bought one. initally my thoughts were...meh about the tire, but as time went on his tire kept going. now i really believe that it's one of the better tires for fixed gear use. fyxation is now making bmx and track grips with the same tread pattern as their tires- which is a really really great isea on their part. imagine a build with fyxation tires and grips, i think it would look actually pretty tasteful and not silly. now if they made vittoria randonneur grips....

surface clothing website up!

(via surface)
surface, from the dudes who brought us charge bikes, has a website. surface debuted during eurobike, and since then alot of us have been waiting to see what's going on with this endeavor. for the most part, it looks quite promising. this jacket really stood out for me- it's the aquaphobic wool jacket that not only is wool, it looks godamn sleek for a medium use jacket. check them out.

jmik

want to know how to make a fixed gear look like it's doing a burn out? : making of fixe 3 cover.

this is hella sick. i know i've been criticized for not featuring enough track stuff so i know this will appeal to all you haters (suck my balls). for some reason i believe that i can recreate this with some valves, wood, tubing, and a smoke machine. my grilfriend is a photographer and i can work my way around some simple carpentry so it sound's like a great weekend project. i think someone should recreate it.

jmik

charge plug in bicycle buyer

New Image
(via charge)
charge makes a damn good entry level fixed gear bike. there are do many good components on the standard charge plug that it's not even fair. halflinks, spoon saddle, leather bartape (or at least i think it is), sugino old style track cranks- everything about it is a great bike. congrats on getting another positive review charge!

REDBULL MINIDROME!!!!!1!!11!!!!!11

http://steadyrollin.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/cimg1146.jpg
(via steady rollin)
AAAAAAAH! REDBULL MINI DROME!!!! i'm so psyched to see this. right now it's in a mocking up stage and it's not in it's final resting place. something tells me that a legitimate track bike will do HORRIBLE on this thing. imagine a legitimate track bike built with a high ratio. now imagine taking that left at a normal drome speeds. now imagine it flying off the drome in at a ridiculously intense velocity. yeah.... i imagine a bmx bike winning this one. discuss.

jmik

put lugs and leather on everything: lasco lugged cranks?

(via benscyle)
lasco is a lesser known brand that for the most part makes low end track cranks that come standard on entry level track bikes. i'm not bagging on their build, but lasco doesnt scream pinky raised esquisiteness (if that is even a word). however, i think these cranks seem pretty good looking. brushed aluminum looking lugs version, and a leather covered viking-esque version- killer killer killer. the laser etching on the chainring looks pretty sick as well. i want to see these on a bike, i wonder how they look.

dqm stole my blog's name. THEY STOLE IT.

(via highsnobiety)
is that a picture of a hill? and does the arm say speed kills? what is that? i wonder if the other arm says bomb hills.... because it's implying that. can someone from dqm tell me what fuck is going on?

HOLD THE FUCKING PRESSES: walmart fixed gear.

(via wally world wobblers)
at my shop, any walmart or cheaply made mass produced bike is a wally world wobbler. this is nuts. what the fuck is a "fixed-speed" bike? and you know the thing is cheap (over the term inexpensive) through the components- the fucking thing uses a one inch threaded headset, the dropouts are cookie cutter, it's aluminum so the second you take it off a curb, it's donezo. it's a pile of shit and that's what people don't understand nowadays. they even fucking misspelled caliper (calipur) on the specs! sure it's a 150 dollars, but so is the weight of 22 pounds of cow shit.

but finally, something that sucks more than republics.

nah, they both suck equally.

i like nike, i like bikes, so why dont i really like this?:loopwheeler for nike summer 2010 bike hoodie

(via highsnobiety)
there's a little too much going on here. usually i love nike stuff, but this is... meh. it makes no sense to me. the pockets are non traditional, and theres an armpocket that i fine a little useless and awkward. i would be satisfied if the pockets were the standard 3 pocket system with elastic on the top, but it's not so no. and why does it have to be released during summer? makes no sense to me at all. oh well. give me a few day's and i'll start liking it. i never stay mad at nike for more than a couple days.

bunnyhop by shaoxin on a durcus one.

(via prolls)
there were mentions of a competition called pedal it dont push it that occurred during the taipei cycle show floating around but i didnt know it was going to be so intense. i think shaoxin just one upped my mentor ted shred (if that's equivalent to 56cm). good shit.

calling all dudes with stuff: looking for sponsors and prizes for april 11th event.

weather has finally let up and this little town seems like it perked up a little bit- bikes are on the streets, people are outside and such. so on april 11th there will be a contest and alleycat right here in chico. ted shred slammed me with a deadline, so i'm hustling to get some sponsors and prizes for the event. so if you represent a blog with some shirts or something or other shoot me an email at odiisii@yahoo.com (dont judge me, i've had that email since 6th grade. i'm a sophomore in college, so you do that math). the flyer will be up soon!
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/53/189685842_937d4a9597.jpg?v=0

(by the way, we all suck at the freestyle portion, so someone from the bay show up and kill the competition. its only me doing nosebonk to halfcabs, my friend doing 720 keos, mike lee doing a wheelie round the block, and my cousin doing keo bars to smoothie to sliders. and maybe ted doing that thing above- so if you can top that, you CAN WIN the freestyle portion. and if i can pull some prizes together, it'll be worth the 3hour drive from san jose. just saying.)
