fixed freestyle is a loose term: Co Ichi of starfuckers

after watching this, i am confused. i know i throw fixed freestyle around like it's no one's business but now i'm not so sure what defines "fixed freestyle". there are so many terms: 700cmx, fixed freestyle, tarcking, etc.. it's hard to figure it out what is the universal term is. to me, this is freestyle- footjam tails, awkward positions, oldschool pegs; just like the horrible onslaught the 80's bmx freestyle movement was (remember RAD? i have mixed emotions about that...). regardless, it's quite difficult to stray away from the bmx mantra considering 97.5% of the tricks done on a fixed gear is from bmx freestyle/riding. the latter part would be attributed to artistic cycling.

with that said...i'm not sure what i'm trying to get at. just keep riding.

OH OH YEAH, I FORGOT! i think the starfuuckers geometry is perfect for theis application by the way. check the foot placement, it's kinda cu-razy.

Home cookin': Chicken adobo edit

so if you dont know what adobo is, it's basically filipino soul food. it's trippy seeing all these places: milpitas high (my girlfriend's former highschool btw), great mall (LOL, hella filipinos there), san jose state, that sketchy ass park that no one likes to skate, chavez, and behind a bunch of businesses in the industrial park areas. great footage emo!

fuck, i miss home.

new all-city doubles and sheriff proto gen II's

the thing about all city is that they constantly move forward. how? check out the comparison between the old doubles and the new doubles.

first off there is the material. i own a pair of the old straps, and i have no problems (well...one problem, which i will get to in a sec). the texture is waaaay different this time around:

the newer straps seen on right^^ are much better quality then the old ones and when you flip them over:

it shows. they also updated their buckles wheich makes me uber happy. with the old version you would have to adjust every once in a while but i'm not complaining.
(pics via all-city)
best part about it, they price stays at $35! like they said it's a victory for the working man.

oh and theyre still testing these....

not the final version yet, but the suspense is killing me!

mission workshop's smaller offering: the rambler

expanded vs. compact bag comparisonRambler on Sunset Ride (Bike Light Not Included)Back of Vandal Cargo BackpackVandal Waterproof Cargo Backpack
(via mission workshop)
so maybe youre looking at the vandal by mission workshop and thinking that it's a little too big for you. remember the thing is capable of holding a sierra nevada minikeg. here's MW's solution, the rambler. as opposed to the vandal's dimensions of 15" x 21" x 7",  the rambler squares in at 13" x 17" x 6" compact and 13" x 17" x 13" expanded giving you 1800 in^3 of space. all the same features of the vandal but in a smaller form!

they just keep getting younger and younger

i believe this is proof that 15 is the new age at which people peak at fixed gear riding. if this is happening now, the the future will blow my fucking mind. on a side note, where do these kids get their money? hell i could barely afford keeping my SE afloat on a student budget, and this kid is running a gorilla with chukkers and all the fixin's. hell the kid is running a small ratio as well! i'm not bashing on the guy, but damn he sure has the tools of the trade. good shit sean!

chari & co x minority works x eddy merckx?

(found via tracko)
if you know me well, one of my dream bikes is the 7-11 merckx. i'm pretty sure the 7-11 merckx is on everyone's want list. the last time i saw one was at the sf bike expo's swap, it had all campy components too... i believe it made me tear up. anyway, they'll come in 2 lense options, clear and black. i cant afford the bike but i can affor the sunglasses inspired by the bike.

50 days, 50 spots by mashsf: FAKE

blur
(via mashsf)
dude, seriously you think mash sf would do this? NO. first of mash sf isnt a trick oriented team. second of all, i dont thing mashsf would start that in detroit. i think i smell copyright infringement... from the flickr this emerged from there's also a fake ipod/ipohone app that utilizes the same design.
Handbook interface by Mr. Matt Arnold.
please remember, that all these designs are from benny gold (who i'd like to say the office is looking pretty solid), not this douchebag.

Deathpedal II trailer:

what surprised me about this edit is where i found it. the shit was on hypebeast! what? i would expect to first see this on other blogs but damn, hypebeast? anyway, kareem teams up with big names like puckett, AJ Austin, Wonka, Congo (we may see a tailwhip from him! :28), torey and Corey Vulture (havent seen him in a quick minute. lat time i saw him was council of doom? yeah...)

animations are spot on (and hand drawn!), and the filming is done in good ol' film. OH, and if you pre-order, you get a free shirt, and everybody loves free shit.

fresh from japan, starfuckers puts out their version of double straps. there are 2 versions, straight up leather and a 3 layer suede based strap. the triple layer one should (hopefully) be a great alternative to the ever so successful toshi doubles. if youre a fan of doubles, you know that toshis are unanimously THE BEST.  lets hope theyre hella good!

nike sb p-rod II 2.5 vulc: hope they will keep the solid shank...

i know i know, this is supposed to be a blog about bicycles not sneakers. however, the prod II.5 is a specimen that i'm rather interested in:
(via highsnob)
when the prod 2 came out the sole utilized a solid shank in the sole which made it ridiculously solid and durable without compromising board feel. but applying it to bikes, the goddamn thin was so clunky and fat that it couldnt fit into clips- it was a great shoe at the time, but i really wanted to experience it while riding.

now apparently, nike is running out of ideas so theyre putting vulc soles on every fuckin' shoe they have designed. this includes classic sneakers to the high end ones.  with the prod II.5 they give it that treatment and got rid of the ridiculously fat tongue (this i can agree with but taking away the fat tongue on the dunk low's was a bad idea). no word of of it will utilize the shank system, but i believe this will be one of the better sneakers to run on a bike.

ted shred circa 2008: 2 stair, pista concept. a retrospective of where the fixed gear is today.

so i recently found an image of my mentor and all around great guy ted shred that was taken in 2008 for a local publication in chico. now you have top remember, in 2008 alot of things we see in the fixed gear realm did not exist. first off MASHSF came out less than a year before and not alot of people were into fixed gear riding.

(via this guy's flickr)
the slider didnt exist. the only fixed gears were pretty much full on track bikes- there were no trick options. no one ran bmx style forks. hell, no one ran 26er forks. as you can see in the photo, risers weren't extremely popular, the only parts were high end parts. look at it- paul cranks, velocity deep v's (remember, back then all deep v's had brake surfaces!). people jumped shit with 23c's (chukkers didnt exist then). no handed trackstands were awesome. no handed skids were awesome. riding backwards in circles was a feat. trick track didnt exist. alot of popular names in fixed freestyle were out of mind. taylor dwight was 15. people believed the best FRS was leather doubles and metal clips. twitter didnt exist. alleycats were competitions among cycle couriers, they determined who knew the city best and who was goddamn fast. no one ever imagined doing 3 taps. people strapped on the highest gear ration they could and bombed hills.

times are a-changin', my friend, times are a-changin'.

(via ldg)
built with reynolds double butted cro-mo tubing and utilizing triple triangle geometry, LDG is coming out with some bangers. i see some lugs, some drilled areas, and a high level of detail (ldg logos all over). the mini fixed gear frame will come in 2 different designs and 10 colors. they also have a component list that's nuts:

iminusd's charge scissor experiment.

well the charge scissors are out and everyone loves them. mark and the crew at imd sold them out hella fast. now if you know the charge scissor, you know tom lamarche.
Lamarche
Philly
Charge Scissor
now the thing about la marches bike, is that he runs 47c conti's. beefy? yes. effective?

(pics above via prolly)
oh hell yeah they are. and nowadays more and more people are starting to run chukkers and g6000's meaning bigger tires. if you think about the type of riding alot of people are doing, it's an obvious choice to go bigger.

recently, iminusd received a shipment of 48c vittoria randos. naturally mark and the crew experimented. here's the outcome:

(via iminusd)
in the front they fit a 40c, and on the rear they fit a 48c meaning: rear 48c Rando= 2mm clearance from the chainstay and seatstay. front 40c Rando= 4mm clearance from the crown.

FUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKIINNNNNAAAAWESOME

hypebeast muppets and something called a bixi: what up gangs(re)tar(d)s

i wasa bit reluctant to post this up but i feel as if i'm obliged to do so. first off the intro gave me spontaneous muscle spasms due to rapid flashing. then we meet the host, a hypebeast muppetlike dude who sports swapmeet sunglasses. not only that the goddamn muppet interviews a guy with gazzelle glasses- the only reason why one should wear those glasses is if you are
A) dj lance rock (who has the awesome factor)

or
B) run dmc

the highlight of gazzelle guy's dialogue: "fixed gear mean just one gear... that's fixed." woooooow. really?

then we meet "harry d. off the hook" and his lo pro with a brake. the brake is an automatic fail but he drives it even deeper with the intense chainsag. oh yeah, did i mention he color coordinates? yeaaaaahhh...NO.

after we find out what a bixi is. it's the ugliest thing i've ever seen. then they have the nerve to compare that to a fixed gear. not only that, dude at 2:11 goes a nut to stem "FIXXXXIIIIEFORTHEWIN" skid. the thing abruptly ends, for which i am thankful.

you will feel like you wasted 3 minutes and 18 seconds of your life.
